Four years ago, I wasnt sure if I would be able to come here. This school was a little further, and a little more expensive, than I wanted. With sacrifices from my parents and many long talks with former softball coach, John Tschida, I made my decision to come to Saint Marys and be a Cardinal. Now, two coaches and one national championship (hopefully two) later, I can look back and honestly say that this was one of the best and smartest decisions that I have ever made. Now about to end my softball career, I can appreciate and remember all those that have made my stay here so special. My first year proved to be the most interesting just look at my nickname, Crazy. I was a naïve 18-year-old who did not know much about the game of softball, but just knew that I could be player and contribute. To give an example, many remember my lack of knowledge on the number of outs in each inning. I only just learned that last year. Currently in my senior year, I can only give my gratitude to Coach Tschida and Coach Fennern for all their persistence, patience and knowledge. I truly believe that a player reflects the attitude of their coach(es), and I feel that this is very true in my case. Much of the player I am today can be attributed to what I have been taught. Coaches are very important, but great teammates prove to be essential. Without a close-knit group of individuals, a team will struggle to go anywhere. My teammates here have been extraordinary. I am the closest with the girls on the team and consider them some of my best friends. I would never trade any one of you, past or present, for anyone else. You made my softball career that much more fun. We won the 2000 national championship together! Not to forget the most important, but none of my own success would have been possible without the sacrifices made by my parents and family to allow me to come to the school of my choice. I know I did not make it easy on you, but I want you to know that I am so grateful. I hope that I have made you proud. Players now, and players in the future, I give you this advice four years go by so fast. Enjoy it because it is a time that you will never forget. I know I wont. P.S.: Jill, Laura and Becky, these four years were unforgettable. Go Jen Miller!!! |
