Aquote by Don Juan reflected, “Look at every path closely and deliberately. Try it as many times you think necessary. Then ask yourself, and yourself alone the question, ‘Does this path have a heart?’ If it does, the path is good. If it doesn’t, it is of no use.”

When I step back and take a look at the path I have traveled as a member of this team, I am reminded of the compassion and commitment to excellence each and every one of us relentlessly pursues in practice and on the playing field. Displayed through our work ethic and willingness to put a side our personal goals, I learned the most rewarding moments came from the daily effort to challenge and improve my teammate’s game. Coach Tschida instilled the importance of character in each of his players. Helen Keller wrote, “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved.” His desire to learn every aspect of the sport, to share his knowledge with his players, and his genuine desire for us to reach our goals, reinforced my confidence in my abilities and desire to develop the skills that the team would most benefit from.

Jill, Jen, Laura, and I have had a unique experience in our four years. Transitioning through the development of this program, my fellow seniors’ determination and commitment have inspired me not only on the softball diamond, but in life. As a team, the adversity of having a new coach has made our bond stronger. Coach Fennern’s philosophy, “Everything we do, we do it together,” is what Cardinal fastpitch is all about. I thank the coaches for their time and effort spent on improving my game, and wish you the best of luck in the future.

Without the loving support and sacrifices of my parents, rides home from Mac, and understanding friends such as Carew, Reh-Reh, and KB (Mala, softball is not a cult!), I would have never been able to be a part of this team. Jennifer Miller (Do Dog, MillBall, 1...4...), I will miss our lobster shin daze, and of course hearing you say, “Just another day Becks!”

This program has been built upon the heart, drive, and effort of past players. The players who remain will carry this beat into the future. If you work hard and put your heart into it, you will prosper in all areas of your life, your dreams will become a reality, and the path chosen will be of use. Thank you and best wishes in the future.
