The Cardinals extended their winning streak to a season-best four straight with their sweep of UW-Stout Saturday. … After scoring just five runs in their first four games, the Cardinals have erupted for 33 runs during their current four-game winning streak. … Six of UW-Stout's seven runs vs. SMU Saturday came in the fifth inning. … The Cardinals have outscored their opponents 28-15 through the first four innings, but have been outscored 22-9 in the game's final three innings. … Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) continued her red-hot hitting, belting four hits including her second grand slam of the season in seven at-bats vs. the Blue Devils. Jung also drove in six runs. … Jung is one of five SMU players who currently boast five-game hitting streaks. The SMU senior also leads the team in multiple-hit games (5) and multiple-RBI games (5). … Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and Cassie Otte (Randolph, Minn.) also enjoyed banner days vs. UW-Stout. Since 2002, St. Thomas is 114-5 vs. MIAC opposition -- 9-4 vs. Gustavus (four one-run losses) and 105-1 vs. everyone else. … The Tommies enter today's game as the nation's No. 1-ranked team. … As a team, UST hit .355 during its 12-game showing at the Sun West Tournament, while foes batted just .164, and the Tommies outscored their opponents 83-16. … The Tommies have won six of the last seven and 13 all-time regular-season conference titles. They've also won all three MIAC playoff titles with a combined 9-0 record since the format began in 2004. … UST coach John Tschida is the lone coach in NCAA softball to win national championships at two different institutions (UST and Saint Mary's). … Tschida is the winningest coach in NCAA Division III softball with a 12-year head coaching mark of 465-85 (.845). He's in his seventh season at St. Thomas (258-40 overall, 128-7 MIAC here), where he's won five conference titles and twice has been named National Coach of the Year...
