WINONA, Minn. Jenny Giannini (River Grove, Ill.) enjoyed a career week last week, batting an astronomical .714 in leading the Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team to a 5-1 record and a berth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
Monday afternoon, Giannini earned another career first MIAC Player of the Week honors.
Giannini collected 10 hits in 14 at-bats with three doubles, five runs scored and eight RBIs, as SMU secured the third seed and a date with Gustavus on Friday in the four-team conference tournament. The junior second baseman opened the week with a 2-for-2 effort in the second game vs. Augsburg last Sunday, then followed that up with a 4-for-5, two-double, four-RBI effort in the Cardinals' sweep of Macalester on Wednesday. Giannini closed out her week with four hits in five at-bats with a double and two RBIs in SMU's sweep vs. Carleton, a sweep that locked up the Cardinals' post-season berth and the team's 14th straight 20-win season.
