This and That: Morgan Betker's one-out double in the top of the eighth scored Steph Moores with the game-winning run in Game 2. The Pipers tied the score 2-2 with a one-out double in the third inning, but UST pitchers retired the final 14 Hamline batters. … Moores had three hits in Game 2 and five hits on the day for the Tommies, who outhit the Pipers 22-6. … Carrie Embree went 3-for-3 with a home run in Game 1, and struck out six of the eight batters she faced in relief. Embree had a 16-game hitting streak halted in game two when she was 0-for-3 with a walk and run scored.

This and That: The Tommies broke open a scoreless game with a single run in the fourth and four more in the fifth en route to a 6-1 win in the opener. UST's bats picked up right where they left off in Game 2, as St. Thomas scored in three of the first four innings in cruising to an 8-2 win and a sweep of the teams' conference opener. … Melissa Mondo went 4-for-6 to pace the Cardinals' 12-hit attack. …  Maria Bye went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, a double and a home run in Game 1, while Carrie Embree was 3-for-4, with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and an RBI.

This and That: Morgan Betker drove in seven runs on the day with a grand slam and three-run homer as St. Thomas scored a pair of five-inning shutout wins over Gustavus in a battle of conference unbeatens. … The sweep also locked up a share of the MIAC title for UST, while extending their win streak to 30, their MIAC win streak to 27 and their home win streak to 23. …  GAC pitcher Joyce DeWitz was roughed up by St. Thomas as she allowed six hits and seven runs in four innings of work. … In game two, St. Thomas exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning including a grand slam home run by Morgan Betker. The Gusties were never in the game as the Tommies scored two more times in the bottom of the second inning to increase their lead to 10-0. .

This and That: SMU held the Gusties' offense well under its 7.5 runs-per-game scoring average — limiting GAC to just five runs combined. Problem was, GAC pitcher Joyce DeWitz was even more stingy, blanking the Cardinals 2-0 in the opening game, then tossing a second straight complete game, this one a five-hitter with four strikeouts, as the Gusties completed the sweep with a 3-2 victory. … SMU pitcher Megan Wallisch allowed just one earned run vs. the Gusties, as GAC took advantage of four SMU errors to score its five runs. … Julie Mahre was 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs to pace the Gustie offense.

This and That: Joyce DeWitz pitched two complete games on the mound for Gustavus, scattering seven hits and striking out 14, as the Gusties blanked Hamline in both ends of the conference DH. … . Erin Ge led the offensive attack with four hits in five at-bats and 2 RBI in the doubleheader. … Julie Mahre saw her nine-game hitting streak come to an end, as she was held hitless in Game 1, before picking up two hits in game two. She did however, score a run in both games and now has scored at least one run in 10 consecutive games.

This and That: The Cardinals erupted for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn a 4-1, Game 1 victory, but surrendered an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh of Game 2, as Hamline rallied for a 2-1 win and the MIAC split. …  Nikki Jung and Jenny Giannini each drove in two runs to pace SMU in the opener, while Hamline's Jourdan Ulrich delivered an RBI bunt single in the seventh to lift the PIpers to the Game 2 win.

How They Got Here: The Tommies locked up the conference's No. 1 seed, completing a perfect 22-0 run through the MIAC. The regular-season title is the seventh in eight seasons for UST.
Tommie Notes: The Tommies enter post-season play riding a 32-game winning streak and have won their last 29 games vs. MIAC opponents. … The 2007 Tommies join the 2004 UST squad and the 1998 Saint Mary's squad (also coached by St. Thomas coach John Tschida) as the lone 22-0 MIAC softball teams. … The Tommies have now won 14 all-time regular-season conference titles. How They Got Here: Hamline clinched the MIAC's fourth seed after an 8-1 win in Game 1 vs. Concordia last Satuday, and Gustavus' doubleheader sweep of St. Benedict. The Pipers will make their third appearance in the conference tournament's four-year history.
Piper Notes: The Pipers enter tournament play with a 1-5 record vs. the other three MIAC Tournament teams. … Jourdan Ulrich (Apple Valley, Minn.) obliterated the school record for stolen bases in a season with 30. The old record was 19 set by Emily Deuth in 2001. … For the year, the Pipers' have stole 71 bases compared to their opponents' 28. … Soohie Davidson (St. Paul, Minn.) was named Hamline's "Female Rookie of the Year" at the annual Honors Day celebration on Thursday. Davidson started every game for the Pipers at shortstop during the regular season, posting a .294 batting average.
