WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team notched its second runner-up performance at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday, falling to St. Thomas 8-3 in the tournament's title game.

Monday, the Cardinals learned they were runners-up to the Tommies once again — this time on the MIAC All-Tournament Team.

The Cardinals landed three members — Danielle Geske (Rosemount, Minn.), Jenny Giannini (River Grove, Ill.) and Megan Wallisch (Loveland, Colo.) — on the 12-player all-tournament team, second only to St. Thomas' six.

Geske hit a team-leading .462 (6-for-13) with a double, four RBIs and four runs scored, while Giannini finished with a .385 average (5-for-13), drove in two runs and scored a team-best five times. Wallisch, meanwhile, pitched a tournament-best 26 innings, allowing just 15 earned runs (4.04 ERA), while striking out 15

St. Thomas pitcher Maria Bye was named the 2007 MIAC Tournament MVP. Bye pitched 12.1 innings during the tournament, allowing only one earned run and six hits. Bye finished the tournament with a 0.57 ERA and 12 strikeouts. At the plate, Bye was 5-for-8 (.625 avg.) with five runs batted in.
