SMU's Jung, Otte named to NFCA All-Region Teams
Cassie Otte (Randolph, Minn.) provided the jabs, leading the Cardinals in hits, runs and at-bats, while Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) used her power to deliver the knockout punch with her team-best home run and RBI totals. Friday afternoon, the Cardinals' dynamic duo was honored for their efforts, as Jung was named to the 2007 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Region Second Team, while Otte was a Third-Team selection. Jung and Otte both started all 39 games for the Cardinals, who closed out the season with a 24-15 record marking the 14th straight season in which SMU has won 20 or more games and lost to top-ranked St. Thomas in the championship game of the MIAC Tournament. Jung enjoyed a career year in 2007, leading the Cardinals in all the power categories home runs (6), RBIs (49), total bases (66) and slugging percentage (.532). The SMU senior was also walked 16 times and boasted a .339 batting average. Otte, meanwhile, batted a team-leading .380, collecting 54 hits in 142 at-bats, while scoring 38 runs. The sophomore outfielder, who boasted a team-best 17-game hitting streak snapped in SMU's season-ending loss to top-ranked St. Thomas also closed out the season collecting two or more hits in 16 of the Cardinals' 39 games. |
