WINONA, Minn. — When it comes to post-season awards, it's been a busy week for the Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team.

First, there was the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Award. Megan Wallisch (Loveland, Colo.) was the Cardinals' lone representative, earning second-team honors.

A day later, the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region teams were announced. Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) was a second-team selection, while Cassie Otte (Randolph, Minn.) was named to the third team.

And on Monday, the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its all-conference team — and this time around, the Cardinals tripled up, as Wallisch, Danielle Geske (Rosemount, Minn.) and Jenny Giannini (River Grove, Ill.) were named to the team.

Geske and Giannini started all 22 games for the Cardinals — Geske in left field and Giannini at second base — while Wallisch was SMU's starting pitcher in 21 of its 22 conference games. The trio held the Cardinals to a 17-5 conference mark — and a berth in the MIAC Tournament championship game, where the Cardinals fell to top-ranked St. Thomas, 8-3.

Giannini led the Cardinals' offense, hitting 438 (28-for-64), while also leading the conference in doubles with eight. The junior second baseman also drove in 14 runs and boasted a .563 slugging percentage.

Geske, meanwhile, was second to Giannini in batting, hitting .403 (30-for-80) with four doubles, two triples, a home run and 24 runs scored. Her 24 runs ranked second in the MIAC, while her 30 hits were third in the league. She also drove in 18 runs, walked six times and carried a team-leading .581 slugging percentage.

Wallisch was the Cardinals' workhorse on the mound, compiling a 15-5 conference record and a 1.91 ERA. She pitched 120.2 of SMU's 146.1 innings — including all 26 innings in the Cardinals' run to the MIAC Tournament title game. She allowed just 33 earned runs and struck out 89. Wallisch led the league in innings pitched, wins, appearances and games started, and was second to league MVP Maria Bye of St. Thomas in strikeouts.

The Cardinals' Jung, Otte and Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.), meanwhile, were honorable-mention All-MIAC selections.
