WINONA, Minn. — When the fastpitch softball season ended last Saturday at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, Saint Mary's University's Megan Wallisch (Loveland, Colo.) found herself atop the Cardinal record books in several categories.

Thursday afternoon, Wallisch was enjoying another first — her first-ever selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team.

Wallisch was the workhorse of the Cardinals' pitching staff, starting 36 of SMU's 39 games — including a string of 30 straight starts from March 10-May 1 — and helping guide Saint Mary's to its 14th straight 20-plus win season.

The senior right-hander — who pitched all 26 innings during SMU's run to a second-place finish in the MIAC Tournament — compiled a 22-13 record and a 2.16 ERA, allowing just 66 earned runs in 214 innings. She boasted 21 complete games and 137 strikeouts. Wallisch's 38 appearances, 36 starts, 21 complete games and 214 innings pitched were all SMU single-season records, while her 22 wins rank No. 3 all time.

Wallisch was one of eight MIAC players selected to the two Academic All-District V Teams. No. 1-ranked St. Thomas had two first-team selections, while Gustavus had two first-teamers and a second-team selection, while Concordia had one second-team pick.
