The Cardinals scored 18 runs on 26 hits — and held Macalester scoreless — en route to wins of 8-0 and 10-0 during the teams’ MIAC doubleheader in Winona, Minn. … Cardinals’ pitchers Jenny Schipp and Erin Leone combined to strike out 29 Concordia batters, as the Cardinals posted a pair of 2-0 victories over the Cobbers last Saturday. Schipp allowed two hits and fanned 15 in Game 1, while Leone tossed a three-hitter with 14 Ks in the nightcap. … Macalester, meanwhile, saw its losing streak climb to 11 with a pair of nonconference losses to Viterbo on Monday. The Scots dropped the opener 9-4, then were shut out 10-0 in Game 2.

The Cardinals have now won three straight, nine of their last 10 and 17 of their last 20. … SMU's 3-1 loss to Gustavus last Thursday snapped its six-game winning streak — and was the Cardinals' first home loss of the season (6-1). … Eight of the Cardinals' 11 losses have been by two runs or less. … Jenny Schipp (Oakdale, Minn.) posted a season-best 15 strikeouts in SMU's Game 1 win vs. Concordia last Saturday, while Erin Leone (Farmington, Minn.) fanned a season- and career-high 14 in Game 2. … Leone earned MIAC PItcher of the Week honors last week, after posting a 0.00 ERA and a 2-0 record — including the 14-strikeout effort vs. Concordia. She allowed just three hits and did not walk a batter in 12.3 innings. … Jenni Gutterman (Shoreview, Minn.) hit safely in all six of SMU's games last week and currently boasts a 10-game hitting streak — one short of her season high. … Gutterman, who leads the team in virtually every offensvie category — including average (.411), at-bats (107), hits (44), doubles (9), total bases (60), slugging percentage (.561) and stolen bases (14) —  has had at least one hit in 26 of SMU's 30 games. … The Cardinals improved to 15-2 when holding their opponents to two runs or less, and are also 15-2 when scoring first. … SMU has outscored its opponents 129-75 — including 23-14 in the first inning, 21-11 in the third and 23-7 in the third. … SMU is 17-1 when outhitting its opponents.
