The Cardinals swept the teams’ season series vs. Hamline a year ago in St. Paul, Minn., winning the first game 2-1, then completing the sweep with a 6-0 win in Game 2. … The Cardinals snapped their four-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over Monmouth in the final game of the Coe Tournament last weekend. SMU had dropped games to Simpson (6-5), Central (5-1) and Coe (1-0 in 8 innings) in its first three games of the tournament. … Hamline, meanwhile, opened its season with a 6-2 record during the Pipers’ spring trip to Fort Myers, Fla.

The Cardinals' 4-1 win over Monmouth snapped their four-game losing streak the longest SMU losing streak since a 4-game slide early in the 2001 season. … Six of the Cardinals' eight losses have been by two runs or less including three that have been decided in extra innings. … Jenni Gutterman (Shoreview, Minn.) hit a team-leading .469 (6-for-13) with six runs scored and was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases during the Coe Tournament. … Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and Jenny Schipp (Oakdale, Minn.) each drove in three runs last weekend, while Schipp also stole three bases in three attempts. … Schipp had her team-best eight-game hitting streak snapped with her 0-for-4 performance vs. Coe. … On the mound, Schipp boasted a 0.51 ERA in 13.2 innings, striking out 20 including a season-high 13 in SMU's 1-0 loss to Coe last Sunday. … SMU has won just once when trailing after the fourth inning. … The Cardinals are 3-1 when scoring in the first inning, but 0-4 when their opponent scores in the game's opening frame. … SMU is 0-5 when its opponent scores first.
