Jen Miller named Cardinals' new head fastpitch coach
Jen Miller, a four-year letterwinner during her playing days at Saint Mary's and a four-year assistant coach under Fennern, was named the Cardinals' new head coach Friday. "I am very happy to be given this opportunity and I look forward to continuing the Cardinal fastpitch's winning tradition," said Miller, the starting catcher on the Cardinals' 2000 national championship team not to mention an All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection her senior year in 2002. "I have had three great coaching mentors Pat Bowlin (at Winona Cotter), John Tschida (at Saint Mary's) and Nikki Fennern (at Saint Mary's) who have given me so much insight that will help me as I begin my collegiate coaching career." A graduate of Winona Cotter, where she helped lead the Ramblers' to a 125-28 record and a pair of Minnesota State High School League state tournament appearances, Miller helped guide SMU to a 143-33 record and three straight NCAA post-season appearances, and, upon graduation, has served as the Cardinals' top assistant the past four seasons. "We're very excited about having Jen step in as our new coach," said Fennern, who officially takes over as the school's athletic director on June 1. "She has already had a huge impact on the success of our program as my top assistant these last four years, and I expect her continue that winning tradition as a head coach. "Stepping down (as head coach) was one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make, but with Jen at the helm, I'm confident that the program will continue to excel at the high standards that we have set." |
