WINONA, Minn. — The season is officially just three days old, but already the post post-season has become as busy as the regular-season for Saint Mary's University seniors Jenni Gutterman (Shoreview, Minn.) and Jenny Schipp (Oakdale, Minn.).

Just a day after being named to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team, the Cardinal duo was one again honored for their outstanding seasons, as both Gutterman and Schipp were named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Midwest Region Second Team, it was announced Tuesday.

And the SMU pair weren't alone on that all-region second team, as teammate Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) was also selected to the 15-player squad.

Gutterman closed out a stellar four-year career — in which she never missed a game, starting all 162 contests — with her best season yet, posting team- and career-highs in batting average (418), runs (38), doubles (12), total bases (89) and on-base percentage (.445). She also led the team in runs (38), triples (5), slugging percentage (.610) and stolen bases (23).

Schipp also closed out her record-setting collegiate career in style, finishing second to Gutterman in batting average (.358), hits (44) and stolen bases (15), while also posting a pair of home runs, 25 RBIs and a .463 slugging percentage.

And with Schipp, that was just half the battle.

On the mound, the senior righthader posted an 11-8 record and a 1.34 ERA, throwing a team-high 131.0 innings, allowing just 25 earned runs, while walking 33 and striking out 155 batters. Schipp's 155 strikeouts — which included seven games in which she struck out 10 or more batters — marked the third straight season she struck out 100 or more batters, and gave her a school-record 545 strikeouts in her career. Schipp is also the school's all-time leader in appearances (99), starts (78), complete games (52), shutouts (22) and innings pitched (516.2).

Jung, meanwhile, was SMU's rock at third base this season. One of just three players to start all 41 games, the Cardinal junior boasted a .326 batting average (43-for-132) with 10 doubles, a triple and a team-leading three home runs. She also drove in a team-high 29 runs, was second on the team in slugging percentage (.485) and compiled a .950 fielding percentage, committing just seven errors in 139 chances.

Gutterman, Schipp and Jung were three of 13 MIAC players selected to the three Midwest All-Region teams. Two-time defending national champion St. Thomas landed five players — including four on the All-Region First Team — while Gustavus had three, and Hamline and Augsburg each had one.
