Well, the rollercoaster ride that is Saint Mary’s softball is coming to an end for this girl. I have had some of the best times of my life here … and some not so good ones, but that’s what makes the great ones so special. The friendships I have formed, people I have met, and experiences I have had, surpassed anything I could have imagined for myself. Softball has always been a part of my life, but I never realized how important it was until playing for this team and sharing it with these girls.

First of all, I want to thank my parents, for all of their support throughout my entire life. Without your support and encouragement, none of my success and accomplishments would have been possible. Even when I couldn’t play, you still came to almost every game. I am very proud and lucky to have you as my parents.

To my brothers, Evan and Jared: You two are probably the reason I wanted to play sports in the first place. I loved watching you play and wanted to do whatever you did. Even if it meant taking the crappy jobs, like letting you hit slap-shots off me in the basement, it meant I was playing with you. Jared, if it weren’t for watching you play first base, I probably never would have realized what a cool position it really is. Thanks to both of you.

Rat-a-tat-tat (aka Weebs): I could not be more grateful that we decided to talk to each other that first day of orientation freshman year, because it is quite possible I would not have made it through these last 4 years without you. You are a great person and friend and I appreciate EVERYTHING you have done for me. Thank you so much.

Past players: You have taught me what it means to be a Cardinal fastpitch player and I can only hope to have been able to pass on a small amount of what you have shown me.

Current players: Each and every one of you play such an important role on this team. The mixture of personalities keeps every moment interesting and I think it has a lot to do with our success so far this year. I have had a great time with each of you. Dusty, thanks for the bike rides and your sense of humor. Jung, giggles … enough said. Annie K., you were and still ARE a wonderful first base buddy. Fellow corners, gotta love being a corn-dogg! Gutt and Schipp, your careers have been great so far and I know they will only continue to improve. Hey Tall Girl, Beverly … go go Gadget! Good luck next year you crazy kids!

Seniors and glorified junior: I can’t imagine a better group to have played with the last four years … well, three years for you, Lang. Daigs, you have more heart, dedication, and love for the game than almost anyone I have ever played with and I admire you so much for that. Edge, you have grown into a strong presence on this team and have done a great job behind the plate. You also have broken more fingers than you can probably count on one hand! Drink some milk, girl!

Lang, I could not be happier to accept you as an honorary senior this year. Our friendship began with all those talks we had your freshman year while “holding down the fort” in the New. Little did I know that this little freshman would be one of the most hilarious people I would ever meet. I swear you get funnier every year. Whether your jokes have great timing or horrible timing (you know what I mean), you always crack me up just the same.

Krista, K.P., Divey McDirt-in-pants, KR of Kregan: Right side, strong side! You have been such a great leader and athlete in this program. I have never been more comfortable playing next to anyone my entire life. That has a lot to do with the amazing friendship that we have formed. As much as it doesn’t make sense, we are so much alike and yet so different at the same time. As far as I’m concerned, we are the two funniest people on the planet, even if no one else laughs at us or understands what we are saying. We have been through so much together in these last few years that it is hard to imagine doing any of it without you. As much as I refuse to tell you sometimes (just because I know it drives you crazy), you really are my best-friend. Olive Juice.

To the coaches that have helped me over the years: First, my dad, for getting me started and teaching me how to catch, throw, and swing a bat. All those hours spent in the backyard trying to see how many balls I could catch in a row were not wasted. We used to get excited to make it to 10, but now try to get one past me! Thanks to my summer coach, Mark Ponsolle, for showing me what “love of the game” really is and always keeping softball exciting and fun. Thanks to my high school coach, Bob Samson, for always having confidence in me, no matter what. To Miller, I learned so much from you as a player my freshman year and was so lucky to have gotten three more years to learn from you as a coach. You have an awesome ability to lighten the mood and yet be taken seriously at the same time, and I respect that. Thanks for all that you’ve done as a player, coach, and friend.

Let’s keep up the good work ladies and finish off this season like we can!!

“May our feet be swift, our bats be mighty, and our balls … be plentiful!”
BULLDOGS!
