WINONA, Minn. Jenny Schipp (North St. Paul, Minn.) did her part to lead the Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team to a near-perfect 5-1 record last week tossing three complete games and throwing more than 23 innings without allowing a run.
And her efforts did not go unnoticed, as the SMU junior was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks, it was announced Monday.
The Cardinals' junior who has now pitched 25.1 scoreless innings threw three complete-game shutouts and added 2.1 innings of scoreless relief as the Cardinals locked up the No. 2 seed for the upcoming MIAC Tournament.
Schipp opened her week with a complete-game, two-hit shutout against Bethel in a 6-0 win last Tuesday. She did not walk a batter and struck out 12. Schipp followed that up with a 16-strikeout, three-hitter in SMU's 4-0 win over Carleton on Wednesday, then completed her week with a three-hit, nine-strikeout effort in SMU's 1-0 Game 1 win over Concordia. Schipp also delivered an RBI double in the sixth inning to account for the game's only run.
For the week, Schipp threw 23.1 shutout innings, allowing just 10 hits, while walking four and striking out 41. She also hit .316 (6-for-19) with two doubles and an RBI.
For the season, Schipp boasts a career-best 18-4 record, and has won 13 straight decisions. During that 13-game span, the SMU junior has allowed just seven earned runs (0.65 ERA) and struck out 90.
