WINONA, Minn. The post-season awards just keep coming for Saint Mary's University's Amy Edge.
Edge, already named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Atheltic Conference First Team, as well as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Midwest Region Second Team, added a third post-season honor on Thursday, when the junior catcher was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District V First Team..
Edge, a biology/physical therapy major who boasts a 3.95 GPA, started all 36 games in leading the Cardinals to a 23-15 overall record SMU's 11th straight season with 20 or more wins. The junior catcher led Saint Mary's in virtually every offensive category. She boasted a team-best .416 batting average (42-for-101), and also led the team in doubles (14), home runs (3), RBis (32), walks (14) and on-base percentage (.483). The junior catcher also had 11 multiple-RBI games, and posted a season-best nine-game hitting streak.
A second-team academic all-district pick as a sophomore last season, Edge is one of xxxx players from the MIAC named to this year's first team.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District team is part of the Academic All-America program, administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ontario and Manitoba are eligible for inclusion on the College Division district team. Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials.
First-team members advance to the Academic All-America ballot, which is voted on by a select committee of CoSIDA members from across the country.
Edge was one of three Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players on the All-District First Team. Kristi Huegel of St. Thomas and Marion Zillhardt of Hamline were also first-team selections, while Gustavus' Molly Biehn and Macalester's Caitlin Adams represented the MIAC on the second team.
