Holey, Henjum lead way as SMU
places 5th at MIAC Championships

WINONA, Minn. — Garrick Holey (Mounds View, Minn.) and Amy Henjum (Woodbury, Minn.) led the Saint Mary's University men's and women's nordic ski teams to fifth-place finishes at the MIAC Championships.

St. Olaf defended both its men's and women's titles, as the Ole men totalled 96 points to easily outdistance Carleton, while the St. Olaf women finished with 102 points, well in front of runner-up Gustavus. Macalester finished third in the men's team standings with 58 points, followed by St.John's (55), Saint Mary's (35) and Gustavus (12). In the women's team standings, Carleton placed third (65), followed by Macalester (41), Saint Mary's (33) and St. Benedict (21).

“I thought it was a good meet for us,” said SMU coach Kelly Skillicorn. “We keep improving with each meet and hopefully that will continue as we gear up for (the season-ending) regional meet this weekend.”

Holey completed the 10K classic race in 35:50 to pace the Cardinals, while Peter Schweich (Red Wing, Minn.) posted a time of 38:10, Michael Uffenbeck (Cable, Wis.) finished with a time of 38:48 and Matt Viscasillas (Shoreview, Minn.) completed the 10K course in 49:15. In the 15K freestyle race, Holey again led the Cardinals' charge with a time of 48:19. Uffenbeck chipped in a time of 52:48, while Schweich added a 54:00 and Viscasillas finished in 1:08.03.

Henjum notched a time of 19:44 in the 5K classic race to pace the SMU women, while Missy Mollick (Hastings, Minn.) added a time of 20:32. In the 10K freestyle event, Henjum stopped the clock in 39:33, while Mollick finished in 42:20.
