ST. CLOUD, Minn. — It was a good day, bad day type of performance for Michael Uffenbeck (Drummund, Wis.) at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Nordic Ski Championships.

The Saint Mary's University junior did not have one of his better performances i the 10-kilometer classic race during Saturday's opening day of the two-day event, but Uffenbeck certainly made up for it in the classical race the following day.

Uffenbeck placed 26th in the 32-skier field in the freestyle race, touring the Graystone Trails course in 35:50. Things were much more Uffenbeck-like in the classical race, as Uffenbeck placed 21st with a 15K time of 1:01:15.

"Michael was a little flat in the freestyle race, but he had a very good race in the classic," said SMU coach John Skemp. "Placing 21st in the classic is a solid showing.

"Hopefully with some rest now, Michael will be ready to really break through at the region meet (this weekend)."
