Cardinals give seniors perfect sendoff with win

WINONA, Minn. — Saint Mary's University men's soccer coach Brad Hauter could not have scripted a better ending if he wanted to.

Three seniors playing in their final collegiate game — two score goals, while the other picks up an assist on the third, as the Cardinals shut out Augsburg 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

Senior Jeff Pope (Arlington Heights, Ill.) got SMU on the board at the 12-minute mark, converting a penalty kick. Early in the second half, it was senior Dan Krocak's (New Brighton, Minn.) turn, as he put in a cross from Joe Rude (Eau Claire, Wis.). Senior Zakim Abraham (St. Lucia, Castries) completed the senior trifecta, setting up Paul Berry (Edina, Minn.) for SMU's second, second-half goal.

The Cardinals closed out the season winning two straight to finish with a 9-8-1 overall record and a 5-4-1 record in the MIAC.
