Today's game is the first-ever meeting between the Cardinals and the Red Hawks. … The Cardinals got second-half goals from Mike Schmitt (Woodridge, Ill.) and Joey Manley (Racine, Wis.), but it was not quite enough, as SMU dropped its second straight decision, falling to Carthage 3-2 Friday evening. … Ripon, meanwhile, saw its season-opening losing streak climb to three straight as Macalester got the game’s only goal five minutes into overtime en route to a 1-0 victory Friday.

Mike Schmitt (Woodridge, Ill.) continued his red-hot offensive start vs. Carthage, as the SMU senior netted his team-leading fifth goal of the season, while also assisting on Joey Manley’s (Racine, Wis.) goal to push his team-leading point total to 11. … Schmitt has now scored goals in three of SMU’s four games … Manley’s goal was the first of his three-year collegiate career. … After allowing just two goals in their first two games, SMU’s opponents have scored three goals in each of the last two games. … SMU has scored 12 of its 16 goals in the second half, while the Cardinals’ opponents have scored six of their eight goals in the game’s final 45 minutes. … Friday’s game vs. Carthage was the home opener for SMU after opening the season with three straight road games.
