The Pipers, who extended their season-opening winning streak to 4-0, scored a pair of first-half goals 13 minutes apart en route to a 2-0 win over the Cardinals in the team's regular-season meeting last year. … The Cardinals snapped a two-game losing streak Saturday, getting goals from Andy Neu and Jon Vik, as SMU blanked Ripon 2-0 in a nonconference game Sunday. … Hamline, meanwhile, pushed its season-opening winning streak to four straight with a 4-2 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering Sunday.

The Cardinals snapped a two-game losing streak with Sunday's 2-0 win over Ripon. … Mike Schmitt (Woodridge, Ill.), who scored one of SMU's two goals in last Tuesday's loss vs. Carthage, has assisted on SMU's last three goals — including both vs. Ripon Sunday — and has had a hand in the Cardinals' last five goals. … Schmitt now leads the team in all three offensive categories with five goals, three assists and 13 points. … Andy Neu (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) scored his first collegiate goal vs. Ripon. … GK Jon Szafranski (Barrington, Ill.) stopped all three shots he faced vs. Ripon to earn his first collegiate shutout in his first collegiate start. … The Cardinals have scored 18 goals in their first five games — one shy of their offensive output all of last year. … SMU has gotten goals from 13 different players and points from 15. …  Thirteen of SMU's 18 goals have come in the second half.

Despite losing five starters from last season's MIAC playoff squad, the Pipers opened 2006 with a 2-1 win over IIAC favorite Central. … Senior forward Jacob Helling has scored a goal in each of Hamline’s first four games to open the season. He has two game-winning goals after scoring the clincher against Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday. Helling has 16 career goals for the Pipers. … Goalkeeper Andrew Clement won his 20th career game in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Carroll College. The junior has started 33 games with a record of 20-10-3. … Hamline has won their last three conference openers, outscoring their opponents 8-0 in those games, including a 2-0 win over Saint Mary’s to begin MIAC play last season. … In the last three seasons, the Pipers are 12-0 in non-conference games before the start of the MIAC season.
