WINONA, Minn. —  Saint Mary's University's Mike Schmitt had a game to remember last Saturday against Concordia.

And Tuesday, the Cardinal junior was rewarded for his efforts.

Schmitt was named the Minnesota Intercolleigate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, after recording his first collegiate hat trick in leading SMU to a 4-2 victory over the Cobbers.

Schmitt, who had scored seven career goals heading into Saturday's contest — and never more than one in one single game — netted three straight vs. the Cobbers to give the Cardinals their second conference win in five games.

A junior midfielder, Schmitt — who led the team in scoring a year ago with five goals and 10 points — has equalled that offensive output in just nine games this season.
