This and That:
Last week's losses to Augsburg and Marian extended SMU's losing streak to three games. … SMU has been outscored 13-0 in its five losses this season. … Patrick Tollaksen (Racine, Wis.) and Mike Schmitt (Woodridge, Ill.) lead the team in goals (2) and points (4). … Bob Endemann (Woodridge, Ill.) boasts a 1.97 goals-against-average, allowing just 15 goals in seven starts. … After Tuesday's game at Gustavus, the Cardinals enjoy a little home cooking, playing their next four games — beginning Saturday vs. Concordia — on their home field. …
Same nagging question, but still no answers as Cardinals'
offense continues to struggle in back-to-back setbacks

WINONA, Minn. — Entering last Saturday's nonconference contest against Saint Mary's University, the Marian College men's soccer team was looking for its first win of the season.

The Cardinals, meanwhile, were looking for their second win — and a stop to their current two-game losing streak, a streak in which SMU had been outscored 6-0.

When the final horn sounded, Marian left the field with its first win, a 2-0 shutout — and the Cardinals were on the losing end of their third straight, and their fifth shutout loss of the season.

Which leaves SMU coach Eric Luzzi with the same nagging question — what does his team have to do to score some goals?

Unfortunately, Luzzi still doesn't have the answer.

"We wanted to come in and play with energy and enthuasiam, and we did that," Luzzi said. "We just couldn't get a win, but everyone on the field at the end of the game deserves some credit."

And when you think of everyone, you figure Luzzi's talking about all 11 players on the field.

But not this time.

After receiving six cautions resulting in yellow cards and two resulting in red cards, Saint Mary's was left to play the final 24 minutes of the game with only nine athletes on the field to Marian's full field of 11.

And Marian took full advantage, outshooting SMU 11-4 in the second half.

"I don't know what to say — we worked hard, play well, we just couldn't put the ball in the net," said Luzzi, whose team has now been outscored 8-0 in its last three games. "I wish I had an answer."
