From the Coach

I would first and foremost like to thank my lovely parents for all that they have taught me, which is … not much.I’m only jokin! I would also like to thank them for all the sacrifices that they have made to send me here — and for being on the smaller side so that I was never big enough to play football so I took up soccer. They have shown me the determination that it takes to be a college athlete and a student. As you can see, I put athlete first because you all know I’m not the best student, but I try. As I once told William Michael Lardner III, “I may not be the smartest person, but I know a lot of stupid stuff.” You guys may not know the whole story but it’s probably good that you don’t.

he next person that I would like to thank is my coach, Eric Luzzi — otherwise known as Dad. “NO SHORT CUTS.” I will always keep this in the back of my head. I will always remember the time you picked me up from the hospital and you had some rap song bumpin when you started your car. Another thing for you, coach, is that there will never be someone as cool as me to wear the No. 9 ever again for SMU men’s soccer. Jokin. And on a more serious note, you have taught me several life lessons through the game of soccer. Thanks for giving me the laundry job, so I could use the infamous couch in the looker room. The last thing is that I will never run the beep test ever again in my life — and I can say that I made it and it only took four years to do that!

To the boys from the Joe, it’s been such a journey. We have had our ups and downs, but it’s always been great times. Just think about the first time we came up here to visit and the time that we had. That was the start and we carried on the fun that we had then till today. Just think, this is the last time that the four of us will play together competitively ever again. Just think about the first time that we played together — and how sweet that was! Then, to think that we were able to do it for four more years in college. Who would have ever thought? Thanks for all the good times, boys. If you guys ever need anything, you know my number and I will always be there for you. Guys, just remember how we rocked Yon’s, Gilmore, and the Old.

To the boys from Maple Lane, where it all started for me — playing every sport imagined. These guys gave it their all and it made me want to try my hardest and to perform better than them because I was the youngest. I would also like to thank Wyn for getting me back into soccer. If it was not for him, I most likely would not be here.

To BOBO, I would like to thank you and your family for letting me stay at your place. I know your parents will be glad when I do not come over cause then they don’t have to worry about coming home and not knowing what to expect — such as the HOT TUB. And remember the car ride with your big chain? And, how about the time in the living room with your brother? Thanks for all the good times and the nice ladies that you showed me — and introducing me to the best hot wings place in the world, “Frank’s.”

Ennessy, you’re the man. I’m sorry that I cut my hair, but you need to know that I didn’t want you to get mad because mine looked better. I would also like to thank you for introducing me to “Frank’s.” Chicken pita and a pound of hot wings. Dip reminder that time.

Raddish, aka Red dog, RAAAdish. “What is you stupid?” I will always remember the first time you said that. It’s a classic. It was great being able to play with you on my side of the field. You always made my job a little easier. Thanks bro.

To the 460 W. 4th Street Boys, thanks for the great times and the mysterious dog, Larry. Remember the time we went to Something Close to the Fish Market in Seattle and we were asked if we wanted to hang out?

Koz you are the king of 118 Old.

Mark, I give you control to take care of business in the back. You are the leader back there now.

Mac, you are my little buddy. I will always remember the good times that we had. I wish that you could have come back to SMU. But, it may be a good thing you didn’t, because the two of us could have gotten into a lot of trouble.

To all the seniors, remember all the great times, including Popa’s place in the New.

The SMU soccer team has been a great family for me and I have tried my hardest to help carry on the tradition. Hey coach, remember that time I wore just my compression shorts? You were not a happy camper that day if I remember correctly. As a family member, I have found myself helping others and others helping me. I will always have every one of you guys in the back of my head.

Let the good times roll and make sure that someone rocks the mullet next year. I hope that everyone remembers me as the gimp with the bad thumb!
