Cardinals' Boland, Lackey named All-MIAC

WINONA, Minn. — When the post-season men's soccer honors were handed out Thursday, the performances of a pair of Saint Mary's University players did not go unnoticed.

Freshman Mike Boland (Lake Zurich, Ill.) and junior Mike Lackey (Midland, Texas) — both instrumental in leading the Cardinals to a 5-4-1 conference record — were named First-Team All-MIAC.

Boland, the Cardinals' leading scorer, netted seven goals in 10 MIAC games and added a pair of assists for a team-high 16 points. The freshman forward's seven goals ranked him No. 1 in the MIAC, tied with conference player of the year Pepe Jon Chavez of Bethel, while his 16 points ranked him second in the conference.

Lackey, meanwhile, was instrumental in spearheading an SMU defense that allowed just 13 conference goals and boasted a 1.25 goals-against-average. Lackey appeared in all 10 conference games for the Cardinals, collecting one goal and adding two assists for four points.
