THE 1930-31 SEASON
Saint Mary's went far afield for competition last season. The first game was with the Chicago American Legion on Stadium ice, an easy victory. Providence in Rhode Island was the next stop, the PAC included in which are a number of former college players, losing 5-1. Two days later, Yale was met at New Haven, and for 18 minutes niehter team was able to score. But reserve strength together with an accidental Yale goal by a Saint Mary's player brought the final score to 3-1 in favor of the Easterners. Crescent AC, a name to conjure with in amateur hockey for two decades, went into overtime in the famous Madison Square Garden before the Brooklyn team was defeated 3-2. Tony Prelesnik's goal accomplishing the victory. Wisconsin League teams did not furnish the opposition encountered in the east, the low scores being the result of poor ice, due to an abnormally warm season. This lack of ice was responsible for the cancellation of a number of important games that Saint Mary's had scheduled, and was the cause of the team being unable to participate in the Minneapolis tournament, which decided the winner in the Olympic playdowns.
