Cardinals' winless streak hits 8 with 7-2 loss to Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Senior Mike Jackson recorded his first career hat trick as Augsburg rode a four-goal second period to a 7-2 victory over the Saint Mary's University men's hockey team Friday evening.

Jackson scored twice in the Auggies' four-goal second-period barrage, then added his third a minute into the third period as Augsburg won for the third straight time, while handing SMU its third straight loss.

Jason Fillipp (Fox River Grove, Ill.) scored both of SMU's goals — both on the power-play — as the Cardinals' winless streak hit eight (0-6-2). Matt Hangge (Rochester, Minn.) picked up assists on both of Fillipp's goals, while Ryan Holland (Winona, Minn.) and Denny O'Connor (Roseville, Minn.) also had assists.

The teams skated to a 1-1 tie after the opening period, but Augsburg scored three times in the first eight minutes of the second period to put the game out of reach. Augsburg finished with 37 shots on goal, while the Cardinals peppered Augsburg goalie Ryan McIntosh with 41.
