WINONA, Minn. — It came down to the fifth and final shooter of the overtime shooter, and David Gross (Grasston, Minn.) came through with flying colors, as the Saint Mary's University junior scored the game-winning goal to lead the White team to a 5-4 win in the annual Red-White Scrimmage at the SMU Ice Arena Saturday evening.

The Red team had the upper hand through the opening two periods, getting goals from Jesse Polk (Hastings, Minn.), Mike Christensen (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) and Karl Reinke (Duluth, Minn.) to take a commanding 3-1 lead heading into the third period.

In the third, however, the White scored three times, getting goals from Andy Roberts (Rochester, Minn.) — his second of the game — Adam Fleishman (Vernon Hills, Ill.) and Matt Staehely (Shorewood, Ill.) to take a 4-3 advantage.

Red waited until the game's final seconds to send the game into a shootout, as Bill Leier (Woodbury, Minn.) knotted the score at 4-4 with six seconds remaining in regulation.
