Curtis Nosal stopped 38 shots, but it was not enough as UW-River Falls jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead and handed SMU a 3-1 nonconference setback in the teams' meeting a year ago. … The Cardinals gave up a pair of third-period goals, including an empty netter in the game’s final two minutes, as UW-Stout extended its unbeaten streak to eight straight with a 4-1 win over SMU Friday evening. … UW-River Falls, meanwhile, got a goal by Derek Hansberry with 3:46 remaining in regulation to lift the Falcons to a 2-1 win over St. Thomas on Friday.
