A wise man once said that time goes fast when you are having fun. When I look back at the four years I have spent at Saint Mary’s, I realize that the time has flown by. I never thought that the time would come that I would be writing my own Senior Salute. I love the game of hockey, and as I make my transition from player to coach, I am reminded of what the game has taught me. “Character” is a very simple word, but it means a great deal. The game of hockey has tested my character as well as strengthen it. I have learned to never give up, even when times are really hard. I have learned to trust in my teammates, even when you don’t get along with them. Most importantly, I have learned that the game of hockey should be enjoyed, because you only get to play for a fraction of a time. My time playing the game I love so much is over. I look back and realize that I have no regrets, because I have played every second of every game like it was my last. I have learned that the game is not about how much talent you have or how big you are, the game is about heart and the desire to compete. I have been fortunate enough to play college hockey and to go out with a group of great guys and compete in the game of hockey for the last 20 years. I have not done all of this on own, there is a collection of people who I would like to thank for supporting me.
First, I would like to thank my parents; they are my biggest supporters and have taught me the importance of always going out and giving your whole heart to what ever you do. They have shared in my hard times and the great times. I love you guys and wonder what you guys will do on Friday and Saturday nights. I would also like to thank my other family members, especially my aunt Tami. You have been there to guide me though, and I would not be the person I am today without the love that you have showed me. A special thanks to my brother, Morgan. Playing with you for two years was the best time that I could have ever had. I guess we will have to play old men’s hockey together from now on. I would also like to thank my sister Kaile who has always encouraged me to follow my dreams.
To the coaching staff at Saint Mary’s, I would like to say thanks for always believing in me as a hockey player and as a person. To all the seniors, Adam, Nick and Andy, I could not have picked another group of guys to have shared my last season with. To all the players, past and present, you have made these last four years wonderful and I will never forget the great times we have had on and off the ice. I would also like to thank the fans for coming out and supporting the team with a special thanks to Dan and my other roommates up in the stands. And last, but not least, a special thank you to my lovely girlfriend, Abby Dahl, who has been there through thick and thin and has always reminded me that hockey is not the only thing in my life. I love you very much.
I love the game of hockey and I am honored to call myself a cardinal. When I take my sweater off for the last time I will have no regrets, because I gave everything I had to this game and have accomplished more than I ever thought possible. Remember that time goes by way too fast, so play all the rest of your games like it was your last, because one day, you will be writing your Senior Salute and it will be your last game. Love the people who support you and remember why you started to play the game in the first place you play simply because the game is fun.
