David Gross (Grasston, Minn.) netted SMU’s first two goals vs. the Johnnies Friday night, while Adam Fleishman (Vernon Hills, Ill.) accounted for the other. … Two of SMU's three goals came on the power play. … SMU scored the game’s first goal for the third straight time Friday evening, after giving up the opening goal of the game in each of its first seven games. … Adam Gill (Rochester, Minn.) assisted on Gross’ second goal vs. the Johnnies on Friday, giving him a point in four straight games, and at least one point in eight of the Cardinals’ 10 games. … Gill currently leads the team in goals (6), while Gross shares the team’s assist lead (5) with Marcus Reska (Winona, Minn.) and Adam Fingerhut (Oak Grove, Ill.), and boasts a team-best nine points. … Friday’s loss was the third straight home loss for the Cardinals, who are 0-3-1 on their home ice.

The Johnnies have now won nine straight MIAC games, dating back to a 5-3 loss to Bethel on Feb. 4, 2005. … SJU is also 34-2-1 in its last 37 MIAC regular-season games. … SJU entered this weekend’s series ranked No. 5 in the latest USCHO.com poll a jump up from No. 8 last week. … SJU goalie Adam Hanna, who stopped 22 of the 25 shots he faced Friday, is now a perfect 5-0-0 vs. SMU, giving up nine goals in those five starts. … Hanna also lowered his goals-against-average to 1.59 and pushed his save percentage to .929. … Aaron Getchell tallied three of SJU’s 12 assists vs. SMU Friday, pushing his team-leading assist total to eight and his team-best point total to 13. … Darryl Smoleroff, Greg Zemple and Matt Wocken all netted their first goals of the season Friday night.
