Marcus Bids Farewell
It seems as though time has raced by these last four years, and I can’t believe that it is almost over. I have experienced so much at Saint Mary’s and have met so many wonderful people that mean more than the world to me. Playing here at Saint Mary’s is something that I will cherish my whole life. It is so much more than what the scoreboard reads at the end of the game that makes being a Cardinal memorable. It involves all the hard work leading up to the season, but also the times in the locker room or on the bus trips that make Cardinal teams what they are.

There are so many people that I would like to thank for helping me get to where I am today. Where would we be without our fans? I believe that we have the best fans in the MIAC and they make our rink so great to play in. And some of our biggest fans are our parents, who are willing to travel to great lengths to see our weekend games. I would also like to thank Br. Stephen for making it to all of my home games. Even though you froze your east coast butt off, I am so glad that you were there. You have provided me with so much guidance and wisdom; I just hope that someday I can repay the favor.

My teammates over the past four years have been nothing short of amazing. Coming to the locker room is what I look forward to because of all the amazing stories and conversations that I can honestly say would never happen if it wasn’t for the locker room. And I am proud to say that I could not have “laced them up” with a better group of guys. Sammy Phillips, “Oh captain, my captain,” you showed me the way it was supposed to be done. The things that I learned from you, on and off the ice, will never be forgotten and I will gladly admit that you are the best D partner a guy could ask for. William Patrick Chambers, what can I say? Words cannot merely describe the memorable times we had in four years (three as roommates).

I want to thank our coaching staff. Coach Olson, you made me feel welcome the moment I stepped foot on campus. Thank you for everything, I have learned so much about hockey and life because of you. Coach Mannor, for the three years that I had you as a coach, I want to thank you for your dedication to the program. You are a great motivator and you helped us so much. Coach Farren, thank you for all of your endless time you put in with our equipment. To the newcomers, Coach Lenny, Bry, and Damerow, I want to thank you for all of the motivation that you bring to practice. It was an honor to play with you and to be coached by you.

To my family, my best supporters throughout my career. My parents, John and Kerre, the commitment that you have shown over the years is beyond words. You guys are always there to pick me up when I fall. Mom, thanks for always looking at the brighter side of things, and letting me know that the best is still yet to come. Dad, you have always been my biggest supporter, and have constantly reminded me to keep striving for the best and to always believe in myself. J, you are the reason that I picked up this sport in the first place. I have always looked to you for guidance and tried to follow the path that you have paved.
