WINONA, Minn. — Saint Mary's University goalie Ryne Ess (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week,
Ess
it was announced Monday.
Ess stopped 36 of the 38 shots he faced in leading Saint Mary's
to a 3-2 overtime win over UW-Superior Friday night.
Making his third start of the season, Ess was tested early and often, stopping 11 shots in the first period, 10 in the second and 13 in the third. The junior netminder also kicked out a pair of shots in the overtime period as SMU beat UW-Superior for the first time since the 1985-86 season.
For the season, Ess boasts a 3.59 goals-against-average and an .888 save percentage, stopping 87 of the 98 shots he's faced.
