WINONA, Minn. The Saint Mary's University men's hockey team, which appeared in its first MIAC playoff game since the 1996-97 season, landed three players on the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first-team, it was announced Tuesday.
Senior Lenny Hofmann (Sartell, Minn.), junior Chad Damerow (Albert Lea, Minn.) and sophomore Marcus Reszka (Winona, Minn.) were among the 21 players named to the All-MIAC team. Regular-season champion St. John's landed seven players on the team including Co-Player of the Year Kevin Willey while league runner-up St. Thomas had four.
Hofmann led the Cardinals in scoring this season, netting seven goals and adding 13 assists for 20 points in 15 MIAC games as SMU posted an 8-7-1 conference mark earning the No. 4 seed in the MIAC playoffs and a home game against fifth-seeded St. Olaf. Hofmann's 20 points rank him fifth in the MIAC, while his 13 assists put him sixth overall.
Damerow, a forward, netted seven goals in 16 conference games, and finished second behind Hofmann in both assists (9) and points (16).
Reszka enjoyed a career year on the blueline for the Cardinals, scoring five goals and adding eight assists for 13 points. His five conference goals were tops among MIAC defensemen, while his eight assists and 13 points were third.
Along with their three first-team selections, the Cardinals also had four players named All-MIAC honorable-mention, including Al Schumacher (Oakdale, Minn.), Sam Phillips (Red Wing, Minn.), Jason Fillipp (Fox River Grove, Ill.) and Ryne Ess (Eden Prairie, Minn.).
