Career week earns Cormier Player of Week honors

Dan Cormier
19.0 ppg last
week; career-
high 25 pts. vs.
Hamline
WINONA, Minn. — In his two-and-a-half seasons playing for the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team, Dan Cormier (Blaine, Minn.) had never experienced a week like he had last week.

A week that culminated with Cormier being named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday

Cormier's week to remember started out with a career-high 20-point effort in SMU's 81-73 win over Macalester — a win that snapped the Cardinals' season-opening four-game losing streak.

And it just got better from there, as the Cardinal junior bettered that career-best performance vs. the Scots by netting 25 points — including the game-winning basket with eight seconds remaining — as the Cardinals posted their second straight win, an 89-87 victory over Hamline.

There were no late-game heroics, or career-best offensive performances in SMU's final game of the week — just a workmanlike 12 points and six rebounds in a 79-57 nonconference loss to NCAA Division II Minnesota State University-Mankato.

All told, Cormier averaged 19.0 ppg and 6.7 rpg in leading SMU to its 2-1 record last week — and that first-ever player of the week honor for his efforts.
