The Cardinals and Scots split their MIAC series a year ago, with SMU getting a game-hgh 22 points from Michael Batterman (Fond du Lac, Wis.) in a 69-65 SMU win, while the Scots posted a 66-56 win in the rematch. … The Cardinals saw their season-opening losing streak climb to four straight as Saint John’s handed SMU a 91-77 setback Saturday afternoon. … Macalester, meanwhile, have been off since dropping a heartbreaker in its MIAC opener last Wednesday. Gustavus took its first lead with 2:14 left in the game and went on to post a 77-72 win over the Scots.

Last Wednesday's loss vs. St. Thomas was not only SMU's third straight setback, but it was also the Cardinals' 38th straight vs. UST, dating back to an 86-78 on Jan. 11, 1988. Saint John's then extended SMU's season-opening losing streak to four games on Saturday. … The Cardinals' losses vs. the Tommies and Johnnies last week were SMU's 12th and 13th straight on the road. SMU's last win away from home was a 61-56 win at Augsburg last season. The Cardinals are now 2-16 in their last 18 road contests. … The Cardinals scored a season-high 77 points vs. SJU — including 52 in the second half. … SJU's 91 points mark the second time this season SMU has surrendered 90 or more points. … SMU is averaging just 60 ppg, while the Cardinals opponents are scoring at a 88 ppg clip. …  Brensley Haywood (Joliet, Ill.) scored a team-high 19 points vs. Saint John's, while Alex Washington (Hillside, Ill.) notched his first career double-double, scoring 16 points and adding 10 rebounds vs. the Johnnies. … Haywood boasts a team-best 12.3 ppg scoring average.

Junior Tom Conboy passed the 400 career rebound total in Wednesday’s loss to Gustavus. He now has 406. With 962 career points, Conboy needs 38 to become the 18th 1,000-point scorer in the program’s history. He has started each of his team’s 55 games over the last three years and reached double figures in scoring in 52 out of 55 games. Conboy has 19 20-point games at Macalester and 16 double-doubles. … The Scots are on fire from 3-point range, shooting 45% through four games (43-for-95), but are shooting just 53% from the free throw line. … Macalester is scoring 79 points a game this season after averaging just 63.4 last year. … The Scots are outscoring their opponents by 7.8 points per game in the first half, but are getting out-scored by 8.8 a game in the second half. … Brad Liddell missed last season with injury, but is off to a good start this year and is netting 14.8 ppg. Fifteen of his 18 baskets are 3-pointers. He was the kicker and punter for the Mac football team this past season. … Jesse Hollander ranked 10th in the MIAC in rebounding last season. He grew up in Katmandu, Nepal, before moving to Bend, Oregon, for his senior year in high school.
