Saint John’s became the first opponent in over 12 seasons to reach the century mark against Gustavus when they beat the Gusties 100-66 last Saturday. Gustavus defeated St. Olaf 128-102 in the 1993-94 season finale. … The Gusties rank second in the league in free throw percentage at 77.9% (204-262). Senior Phil Sowden ranks fourth individually, hitting 85% (51-60) of his opportunities from the charity stripe in league games. … Sowden needs 30 points to tie Bill Laumann (1,177 points; 1962-66) for 19th place on Gustavus’ career points list. … Trevor Wittwer ranks fourth in the league in field goal percentage at 58.0%. Wittwer has hit 69 of 119 field goals in 13 MIAC games. His 59.5% field goal percentage in all games ranks 39th in NCAA Division III (as of Jan. 28). … Wittwer needs two steals to pass Matt Reeck (87 steals; 1993-95) for tenth place on Gustavus’ career steals list. … Junior Kane Sivesind ranks second in the MIAC in three-point field goal percentage at 51.1%. Sivesind is 23 of 45 from behind the three-point arc in league games this season.

The Cardinals saw their three-game winning streak come to a screeching halt, as St. Olaf dealt SMU a 63-57 setback Wednesday in Northfield, Minn. … Gustavus, meanwhile, gave up 100 points for the first time in 12 seasons, as Saint John's handed the Gusties a 100-66 loss last Saturday.

With five games left in the regular season, the Cardinals are currently tied with Carleton (next Wednesday's opponent) for the sixth and final MIAC playoff spot. SMU still has games remaining against Gustavus (8-6 MIAC), Carleton (6-9), Augsburg (5-9), Bethel (9-5) and Concordia (3-11). … The Cardinals' loss vs. the Oles snapped their three-game winning streak — SMU's longest streak since winning three in a row from Jan. 21-28, 2004. … After averaging a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds) in SMU's three games last week, Dan Cormier (Blaine, Minn.) was held to just five points vs. the Oles. …  Brensley Haywood (Joliet, Ill.) — who started his 46th straight game, dating back to Feb. 12, 2005 — netted a team-high 12 points vs. St. Olaf, marking the sixth straight game in which the SMU senior has scored in double figures. Haywood has scored 10 or more points in 15 of the Cardinals' 19 games. … Brad Knights (Plainfield, Wis.) netted a career-best 18 points in leading SMU to its win vs. Hamline last Saturday. … SMU's 57 points vs. the Oles marked the eighth time this season the Cardinals failed to score 60 points — and they've lost all eight. … SMU's wins vs. Macalester and Hamline last week completed a pair of two-game sweeps of the Scots and Pipers, the first time the Cardinals have swept two conference teams since sweeping St. Olaf, Macalester and Concordia during the 1999-2000 season.
