After winning three straight for the first time since the 2003-2004 season, the Cardinals have now lost two straight. … With four games remaining in the regular season, the Cardinals are currently one-half game back of Carleton and Macalester for the sixth and final MIAC playoff berth. … After averaging a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds) in SMU's three games last week, Dan Cormier (Blaine, Minn.) was held to just five points vs. the Oles last Wednesday. … Brensley Haywood (Joliet, Ill.) who started his 47th straight game on Saturday vs. Gustavus, dating back to Feb. 12, 2005 netted a team-high 12 points vs. St. Olaf and 17 points vs. Gustavus, marking the seventh and eighth straight games in which the SMU senior has scored in double figures. Haywood has scored 10 or more points in 16 of the Cardinals' 20 games. … SMU four free-throw attempts and one made FT made vs. Gustavus were season lows. … SMU's 57 points vs. the Oles last Wednesday marked the eighth time this season the Cardinals failed to score 60 points and they've lost all eight.

The Knights snapped a four-game losing streak wiht Monday’s lopsided win over Hamline. … The 98-point outburst for the Knights, who averaged a paltry 55.3 points during their four-game losing streak, was the most Carleton has scored since the second game of the 2000-01 season, a 100-91 victory over Oakland City College in Hawaii. It was Carleton's highest scoring output against an MIAC foe since the Knights outscored Bethel, 111-104, on Feb. 12, 1996. … Jake Phillips is closing in on a rare milestone. He has 999 career points and 397 career assists. Only one other Carleton player, Scott Christensen ’03, has posted more than 1,000 points and 400 assists in a career. Only three MIAC players Christensen and Bethel’s Keith Newman ’92 and Dave Blanchard ’80 have accomplished the feat. … Carleton, currently tied with St. Olaf for fith in the MIAC playoff race, has not missed the MIAC playoffs since 2000-01. If the Knights fail to qualify, they would become the first team since the conference moved to the current six-team format to miss the playoffs after making the MIAC championships game the previous season.
