The Cardinals won both meetings vs. Augsburg a year ago, getting 22 points from Brensley Haywood (Joliet, Ill.) in a 61-56 win on Dec. 3, then completing the sweep, 84-71, behind Haywood's 17-point performance. … The Cardinals struggled from start to finish in falling to Carleton 77-49 in Northfield, Minn., on Wednesday. … Augsburg, meanwhile, dropped its third straight, losing to Saint John’s, 75-65, at home on Wednesday.

Wednesday’s loss was the Cardinals’ third straight and fourth in their last five games. … Eric Lear (Antioch, Ill.) and Michael Batterman (Fond du Lac, Wis.) each scored eight points vs. Carleton, marking just the second time in SMU’s 11 games that the Cardinals failed to have a double-figure scorer. … SMU’s loss at Carleton Wednesday dropped SMU to 1-5 on the road this year.
