Tonight is the next-to-last day of basketball in the old and tiny Macalester Gymnasium as the building will be torn down to make room for Mac’s new Athletic & Recreation Center. Built in 1924, the gym will host its final athletic events Saturday (Jan. 27) when the Scots host St. Thomas. The Scots played in the Upper Gym from 1924 until moving into the “new” Field House in 1956. Macalester moved its basketball games back upstairs in 1994 and has been playing there the past 13 years. … The Scots boast a pair of the top-five point producers in the MIAC in Abe Woldeslassie (19.2 ppg.) and Tom Conboy (16.8 ppg.). … The Scots rank eighth in the nation in NCAA Division III in 3-pointers made per game and 14th in 3-point shooting percentage, are one of just four teams ranked in the top 20 in both categories. Brad Liddell is fifth nationally in three-pointers made per game and Woldeslassie is second in three-point accuracy. … With 66 treys in 16 games, Liddell is on pace to challenge for the school single-season record of 97 set by Bobby Aguirre in 1994-95.
