The Cardinals dropped both games vs. the Royals a year ago, falling 92-72 and 74-57. … The Cardinals snapped a two-game losing streak with an 87-81 win over Northland in the third-place game of the UW-Eau Claire Tournament last Friday. … Bethel has been off since Dec. 17, when the Royals got a team-high 12 points from Charles Meadowcroft and won for the second straight time, beating Crown 90-65.

SMU’s 87 points in its win vs. Northland were a season high. … The Cardinals have score 85+ points twice — winning both games. … Brensley Haywood (Joliet, Ill.), who averaged 12.0 ppg and dished out 12 assists, was named to the UW-EC Tournament All-Tournament Team. … Haywood also earned the tournament’s Playmaker Award, while teammate Terrence Smith (Broadview, Ill.) — who averaged 17.0 ppg in SMU’s two tournament games, including a game-high 19 vs. Northland — captured the tournament’s Fireman Award. … Michael Batterman (Fond du Lac, Wis.) heads a trio of SMU players averaging in double figures with a 13.0 ppg average. Smith (11.6) and Haywood (10.9) are the other two. … The Cardinals, who play host to three MIAC teams this week — Bethel tonight, Gustavus on Wednesday and Saint John’s on Saturday — are unbeaten (2-0) on their home floor.

Charles Meadowcroft has now led the Royals in scoring in each of the team’s last three games, averaging 15 ppg in those three games. … Bethel has now scored 90 points in each of its last two games, and has not scored less than 79 points in going a perfect 5-0 in nonconference play. … Matt Fredrickson’s 11.6 ppg leds a trio of Royal players averaging in double figures. Tyson Bjorklund (11.5 ppg) and Trent Perry (10.8 ppg) are also averaging in double figures. … Bjorklund is averaging a team-high 25.8 minutes in Bethel’s eight games — but has not attempted a free throw. … Isaac Hindrichs is averaging a team-best 8.0 rebounds per game, including 11 boards vs. Viterbo and 12 vs. both UM-Morris and St. John’s. … Today’s game vs. SMU is just the third road game for Bethel, which is 1-1 away from the Robertson Center.
