Regis' offense too much as Cardinals drop fourth straight, 98-46

DENVER, Colo. — It wasn't that the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team played that poorly Thursday evening in its nonconference game against Regis.

After all, the Cardinals shot 40 percent from the field and scored 64 points — their third-highest offensive output of the season.

It's just that, as well as the SMU offense played — the Regis offense was that much better.

Regis shot 47 percent from the field in the first half, scoring 49 points, then added another 49 points on 53 percent shooting in the second half en route to a 98-64 win over the Cardinals.

Lance Larson (Lakeville, Minn.) scored a game-high 19 points in the losing effort for the Cardinals (1-6), who have now lost four straight. Terrence Smith (Broadview, Ill.) chipped in a career-high 16 points in the losing effort.

DeMel Tarver scored 17 points and added 12 rebounds to lead six Regis players in double figures.
