Cardinals' struggles continue with 71-52 loss to Concordia
MOORHEAD, Minn. All season, Saint Mary's University men's basketball coach Bob Biebel has been able to find a glimmer of a silver lining in each game his Cardinals played.
A strong first half here, a good defensive effort there. Great free-throw shooting one night, solid play on the glass the next.
Despite the 2-12 record, there was always something positive for Biebel to hang his hat on.
Monday night against Concordia, there were no silver linings.
The Cardinals struggled in all facets of the game from the field (6-for-21 from beyond the 3-point line), from the free-throw line (2-for-9), rebounding (SMU was outrebounded 37-28) in dropping their sixth straight, 71-52.
The Cobbers used a 17-4 run at the end of the first half to pull away from the Cardinals and win their third straight game. Concordia (3-7 MIAC, 4-10) held a 35-26 lead at the break and steadily pulled away in the second half.
The Cardinals (2-8 MIAC, 2-13 overall) closed to within six, 51-45, only to have the Cobbers go on a 20-7 run to close out the game.
Nick Michaels (Dyer, Ind.) scored 15 points and was the only SMU player to score in double figures. Jared Swanson netted a game-high 25 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Concordia.
