STILLWATER, Minn. — When Saint Mary's University women's golf coach Dan Messmann appeared on the SMU television show "The Cardinals' Nest," he predicted that his Cardinals had a chance to finish as high as fourth in the season-ending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

Yet, while Messmann firmly believed a fourth-place finish was in the cards for his team, never in his wildest dreams could he have predicted what transpired over two days on the Stone Ridge Golf Course.

And it had nothing to do with SMU fulfilling Messmann's predication of a fourth-place finish.

The Cardinals certainly made Messmann appear clairvoyant, shooting rounds of 363-359 for their fourth-place finish — just five shots back of third-place St. Benedict in posting their highest team finish ever — but what the SMU head coach didn't foresee was the individual performances of Andrea Hanke (Janesville, Wis.) and Caty Beel (Tucson, Ariz.).

Hanke, the Cardinals' individual leader all season, collected her second All-MIAC honor, posting rounds of 84-85—169 to finish sixth overall, while Beel added rounds of 84-87—171 — the best two-round performance of her collegiate career — to finish eighth overall and join Hanke on the All-MIAC team.

Katie O'Connor (Orland Park, Ill.) added a 93-94—187 and Val Meschke (Pine River, Minn.) chipped in a 99-93—192 to round out the Cardinals' top four scorers.
