Savage, Polk place 4th individual in leading SMU Red to 3rd-place finish
WINONA, Minn. In terms of overall team finishes, the Saint Mary's University men's golf teams placed third and fourth in the Cardinals' two-day, double-dual against cross-town rival Winona State.
In terms of individual performances, however, the Cardinals turned in some impressive performances.
Scott Savage (Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Jesse Polk (Hastings, Minn.) each fired 10-over-par 152s to place fourth overall, just five shots back of tournament champion Troy Merritt of Winona State.
Savage carded the Cardinals' best round of the tournament, shooting a four-over-part 75 at the Winona Country Club. The SMU sophomore added a second-round 77 to finish at 152. Polk, playing in his first collegiate meet, matched Savage's final 152 total, carding back-to-back 76s in leading the SMU Red team to a third-place score of 628.
Curtis Nosal (Omaha, Neb.), Kyle Roark (Waterloo, Iowa) and Mark Miller (Winona, Minn.) rounded out SMU's top five finishers, placing 13-14-15, respectively, with scores of 162 (79-83), 163 (82-81) and 165 (81-84).
