Beel leads Cardinals to 12th-place finish in final tournament of season

BECKER, Minn. — The weather conditions were more conducive to a fall football game — cold, windy and rainy — than a golf tournament, but the Saint Mary's University women's golf team braved the elements, firing a 406 during Sunday's final round of the Minnesota Women's Collegiate Golf Association Championships.

SMU, which opened the two-day tournament with a 378 on Saturday, finished 12th overall in the field of 15. Minnesota State won the tournament whit a 650 two-day total, five shots in front of St. Cloud State. Gustavus was the top Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team, posting a 685 to finish fourth overall.

Caty Beel (Tucson, Ariz.) was the top Cardinal finisher, placing 52nd overall with a 189 (96-93). Andrea Hanke (Jordan, Minn.) was close behind at 192 (87-105), followed by Dani Lynch (Williston, N.D. / 97-107—204), Emily Nordstom (Mendota Heights, Minn. / 98-110—208) and Kristi Pugal (Brookfield, Wis. / 107-101—208).
