Final standings don't reflect Cardinals' performance at WSU Fall Foliage
WINONA, Minn. The team standings told one story, but the individual performances told another.
The Saint Mary's University women's golf team may have placed fifth in the five team field at the Winona State University Fall Foliage Saturday and Sunday, but when you consider the rest of the field were all NCAA Division II schools, fifth wasn't all that bad.
Add to that the fact that SMU recorded its second-best team score ever 739 and had three golfers turn in personal-best two-day totals, and it's safe to say the Cardinals' final tune-up before the season-ending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships was a huge success.
"I'm very pleased with the way we performed," said SMU coach Dan Messmann. "Playing against an all NCAA Division II field really brought out the best in us. We seem to be peaking at just the right time this was a great weekend for tuning up for the conference tournament."
Andrea Hanke (Janesville, Wis.) led the way for the Cardinals posting a career-best 88-85173. Kris Klimmek (Jordan, Minn.) was close behind carding rounds of 89 and 92 for a 181 total. Emily Nordstrom (Mendota Heights, Minn.) chipped in a 95-96191, while Kristi Pugal (Brookfield, Wis.) rounded out SMU's top four with a 93-101194.
