Berndt's 171 carries Cardinals to 7th-place finish at MIAC Championships

WOODBURY, Minn. — For the Saint Mary's University women's golf team, everything was lower on the second day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

Their score was three strokes lower.

And, unfortunately, their team standing was one spot lower, as the Cardinals, dropped from sixth to seventh over the final 18 holes of the season-ending conference tournament.

St. Thomas won the event with a 665 total, while Gustauvs was second (667) and Concordia was third (678). The Cardinals finished with a 745 total for seventh.

Freshman Ellen Berndt (Rice Lake, Wis.) led the way for the Cardinals, carding rounds of 83 and 88 for a 171 total on the par-72 Prestwick Golf Course. Berndt's two-day total missed the all-conference cut-off by one stroke. Gustavus' Alicia Golembeski ran away with the individual title, shooting a 77-76—153 to finsih eight strokes in front of runner-up Liz Meschke of Concordia.

Along with Berndt's 171, the Cardinals also got a 94-90—184 from Kris Klimmek (Jordan, Minn.), a 100-98—198 from Kristi Pugal (Brookfield, Wis.), a 97-102 from Emily Nordstrom (Mendota Heights, Minn.), a 111-95 from Anne Moe (Rogers, Minn.) and a 114-112—226 from Caitie Wondergem (Sheyboygan, Wis.).
