SMU lands 15 on MIAC Academic All-Conference Team

WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team led the way as SMU landed 15 student-athletes on the 2006 Fall Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team, it was announced Thursday.

The MIAC recognized 287 student-athletes who represent the conference's 13 institutions. Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to qualify for MIAC Academic All-Conference recognition. Athletically, student-athletes in football, soccer and volleyball must compete in 50% of their team’s varsity regular -season contests. Golfers must be a member of their competing team at the conference championship and cross country runners must finish in the top 35 at the MIAC Championships to be eligible.


Carolyn Kiefer (New London, Wis.), Kaylene Mrozinski (North St. Paul, Minn.), Theresa Perrini (Fairway, Kan.), Jessica Voight (Caledonia, Minn.) and Ashley Wendlandt (Litchfield, Minn.) represented the Cardinal volleyball team on the academic all-conference team..

Others named to the MIAC's Academic All-Conference team from SMU were: Tera Bollig (Cambridge, Minn.), Kim Koecheler (St. Paul, Minn.) and Sarah Zweber (Elko, Minn.) from women's cross country; Terrence Coonan (Fort Wayne, Ind.) from men's soccer; Val Meschke (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) and Katie O'Connor (Orland Park, Ill.) from women's golf; and Emily Berg (Owatonna, Minn.), Jennifer Johnson (Racine, Wis.), Melissa Paulson (Ham Lake, Minn.) and Lisa Tlougan (Rochester, Minn.) from women's soccer.
