Windy conditions making the going tough for Cardinal runners at MIAC
ST. PAUL, Minn.,. It was one of the two meets that the Saint Mary's University cross country teams had been gearing up for all season the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
Everything the Cardinals had done to this point was in preparation for this event.
Now, if only Mother Nature would have cooperated a little bit.
Racing in cool, rainy and very, very windy conditions, the Cardinals struggled a bit on the Como Park Golf Course, as the SMU men settled for an 11th-place finish, while the Cardinal women were 12th.
Andy Boisjolie (Austin, Minn.) led the way for the SMU men, clocking an eight-kilometer time of 29:34. Karl Hatteberg (Waltham, Minn.) was close behind, stopping the clock in 30:05, while Aaron Raulin (Madison, Wis. / 30:18), Pat Polasek (Glendale Heights, Minn. / 31:11), Steve Adams (Roseville, Minn. / 31:49), Pat Bansley (Chicago, Ill. / 33:29) and Mike Marek (Winona, Minn. / 34:11) rounded out the Cardinals' top seven.
On the women's side, Ellen Koranda (Blue Earth, Minn.) led the SMU charge, covering the 5K course in 20:37. Tera Bollig (Cambridge, Minn.) chipped in a time of 20:53, and Ashley Davis (Hugo, Minn.) and Keri Drake (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) were far behind in 21:43 and 21:53, respectively. Anna Curtis (Franklin, Tenn. / 22:09), Jenny Folgers (McHenry, Ill. / 22:36) and Sarah Zweber (Elko, Minn. / 22:59) rounded out SMU's top seven.
